Engagement Sessions

17 Jan Engagement Sessions

Since this is our busy booking season and start of wedding season, I thought I would share some of my thoughts on engagement sessions.  I love engagement sessions. It gives me a chance to get to know the couple before the wedding day. I get to see how they interact in front of the camera and they get to see how I work behind the camera. By the time their wedding day comes there is a trust in us with our photography and it’s like a friend is walking into their wedding to photograph it. They are more relaxed in front of the camera on their wedding day, because they have already seen what we can do with our photography. Some of my favorite photos of an engagement session are when I ask them to kiss. It’s not the actual kiss I am going for, it is that small beautiful smile that the couple has right before they are going to kiss. It’s magic.

I have photographed engagement sessions all over. Sometimes the couple chooses a location that is important to them, maybe it’s where they had their first date, went to collage, or where the proposal happened. Sometime our couple ask for some location ideas, which we have plenty. I have photographed in all the seasons, at peoples new homes that they will share together, at baseball fields, or in the mountains. One thing I love to do is look for the light or what I call chase the light. That beautiful backlighting that is nice and golden a couple of hours before sunset. It just makes the photos create a mood of warmth which is perfect for engagement sessions. Here are some of my favorites from the past.
